Flatworms

                                    Origin of Flatworms

Because of limited fossil evidence the evolution of flatworms is uncertain. Evidence suggests that they were the first the first group of animals to evolve bilateral symmetry with senses and nerves in the head region. Flatworms were probably the first animals to have a third tissue layer that develops into organs and systems. Some scientists hypthoesize that flatworms and cnidarians might have had a common ancestor.
